COURSE CURRICULUM
The Fine Art program is structured to support students in developing a personal, contemporary art practice grounded in conceptual thinking, practical skills, and professional awareness. In the first year, students are introduced to broad thematic modules in Blocks 1 and 2—Memory and Place, Material and Meaning, Multiculturalism and Identity, and Reimagining. These themes encourage exploration through traditional and modern techniques such as painting, drawing, printmaking, construction, digital media, and performance. Studio learning is supplemented by weekly observational drawing workshops and art history lectures. Students begin to develop a contextual and developmental blog that accompanies their practical work. Blocks 3 and 4 build on this foundation, promoting further development of individual practice, negotiation of personal projects, and deeper critical engagement. In the second year, Block 1 focuses on Studio Practice Development, where students respond to external factors while continuing to refine their artistic identity. A blog continues to serve as a space for reflection and research documentation. Block 2 shifts to theoretical foundations with Art History and Theory 1, providing students with academic writing skills and exposure to major art movements and postmodernism through lectures, seminars, and writing workshops. Blocks 3 and 4 further develop independent practice and contextual understanding. Studio Practice Development 2 emphasizes self-directed projects, while Professional Practice 1 encourages students to engage with real-world opportunities such as exhibitions or community projects. In the final year, students take more ownership of their work. In Block 1, Art Practice 1 allows students to establish a clear direction for their final projects through tutorials and critical discussions. Block 2, Art History and Theory 2, deepens conceptual awareness with an essay tied to individual practice. In Block 3, students finalize their studio work for public presentation in the Degree Show, supported by reflective writing. Finally, Block 4 prepares students for careers in the art world, focusing on professional portfolios, promotional materials, and digital presence.
