COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Filmmaking degree is designed to give students a structured, practical, and creative journey through the art and craft of filmmaking. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of moving image production, film and photography capture, and the essentials of film storytelling. They also gain experience in commercial content production, learning how to create professional outputs for real-world contexts. The second year builds on these foundations by advancing film and photography techniques, developing a moving image portfolio, and exploring the craft of screenwriting. A module in creative enterprise equips students with the knowledge and skills to understand the business side of the industry and prepare for freelance or entrepreneurial careers. In the final year, students focus on applying their skills in more advanced and specialised projects. They undertake a short film production, gain experience in documentary filmmaking, and study film festivals, marketing, and distribution to understand how work reaches audiences. The degree concludes with a portfolio project, allowing students to showcase their best creative and technical work. This progression ensures graduates leave with strong creative skills, industry-ready portfolios, and the professional insight needed for careers in film, media, and related industries.
