COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion Communication and Styling course is structured over three years, gradually building skills in styling, visual communication, media production, and professional practice. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of styling and creative development. The opening module explores fashion styling through hands-on projects involving creative research, concept building, presentation, and portfolio work, including an introduction to photography. This is followed by a focus on fashion image creation where students explore digital photography, image manipulation, illustration, and CAD, developing technical skills essential to fashion communication. The third module introduces editorial communication, focusing on visual storytelling through publication design, audience research, and campaign building. The final module of year one delves into video production and fashion film cultures, teaching students the grammar of moving image production and situating it within historical and theoretical contexts. In the second year, the course expands into digital platforms and real-world scenarios. The first module uses digital content and social media themes to teach campaign direction around ethical and social issues, focusing on targeted consumer engagement. The next module sees students take on a consultant role, developing a full campaign with film elements for a fashion client, combining branding, trend analysis, and audience insight. Fashion Event Styling offers a practical experience in styling for live events, while the final module develops professional identity through CV writing, portfolio creation, and an understanding of industry issues like sustainability and inclusivity. In the final year, students deepen their skills with a consultancy module, taking on live briefs with real clients to build confidence and industry knowledge. This is followed by a portfolio-focused module preparing students for employment or freelance work. The year culminates in a self-directed final major project, allowing students to showcase their creative and conceptual strengths across styling, communication, and theoretical research through a practical outcome and written essay.
