COURSE CURRICULUM
In Year 1, students will begin their educational journey with an introduction to the history and academic discipline of education in Block 1. This module provides a historical context for primary, secondary, and tertiary education, primarily focusing on England, and explores the role of education across the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Block 2 examines key psychological theories of learning and cognitive development, along with the role, purpose, and function of education in contemporary society. Block 3 introduces the core areas of psychology, including biological, cognitive, developmental, personality, and social psychology. Block 4 focuses on contemporary, evidence-based issues in education, allowing students to engage with current debates in the field. In Year 2, Block 1 addresses ways of learning and wellbeing, while Block 2 introduces students to the research methods used in education. Block 3 covers psychology and mental health, providing an understanding of the psychological aspects of learning and development. Block 4 delves into inclusion and diversity, examining who is included and excluded in education and how barriers to educational inclusion can be addressed. In the final year, the core module is the Education Dissertation, offering students the chance to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice. In Block 1, students can select from a range of modules, including Global Comparative Education, Music in the Life of the Primary School, Radical Education, and Creativity and Education. In Block 2, students can choose from modules such as The Practice and Policies of Primary Education, Education and Equality: Class, Race, and Ethnicity, and Special Educational Needs in Education. In Blocks 3 and 4, students can select two modules from options like Human Sexual and Reproductive Behaviours, Forensic Psychology, Psychology of Health and Illness, and Cyberpsychology, among others.
