COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, students will explore key aspects of education through various modules. Block 1 focuses on the historical context of education, examining the development of primary, secondary, and tertiary education, as well as informal learning settings. Block 2 delves into the psychology of learning and the role of education in society, addressing the cognitive development theories and sociological perspectives that influence educational practices. Block 3 offers a language component, with students either beginning or continuing their Mandarin studies, depending on their level. In Block 4, the focus shifts to contemporary issues in education, with an emphasis on evidence-based approaches to current educational debates. In Year 2, students will deepen their understanding of education with a focus on learning and wellbeing in Block 1, alongside an introduction to research methods in education in Block 2. In Block 3, students continue their Mandarin studies at a higher level, progressing to Post-Beginner or Intermediate Mandarin, while Block 4 addresses inclusion and diversity in education, encouraging students to critically reflect on how education systems include or exclude various groups. In the final year, students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of modules, including Creativity in Education, Radical Education, Global and Comparative Education, and Music in the Life of the Primary School, in Block 1. Block 2 offers further choices, including The Practice and Policies of Primary Education, Special Educational Needs, Disability and Neurodiversity, and Education and Equality: Class, Race, and Ethnicity. Block 3 continues Mandarin language development at the Intermediate or Advanced level. In Block 4, students will complete their Dissertation, allowing them to undertake an independent research project on a topic of their choice, demonstrating their ability to conduct and present research in education.
