COURSE CURRICULUM

This Dance program offers a comprehensive and progressive journey through the art and practice of dance, blending performance, choreography, academic study, and professional development. In Year 1, students begin by building foundational skills through modules like The Responsive Dancer, which introduces diverse techniques, choreography, and contextual studies. Rethinking Dance expands this by exploring screen dance, digital editing, and ensemble work, while Space, Place and Connections encourages site-specific and socially engaged choreography in varied locations. Ensemble Performance and Production culminates the year with a public performance, emphasizing collaboration, direction, and event management. In Year 2, students delve deeper into artistic identity with Style, Production and Artistry, integrating elements like costume and set design into choreography. The Healthy Practitioner module supports students' physical wellbeing with practices like yoga and pilates, while also covering anatomy, nutrition, and injury prevention. Applying Your Practice introduces community and educational work, highlighting dance's role in health, wellbeing, and empowerment. Digitising Your Artistic Voice returns to screen-based dance but with greater artistic sophistication and self-direction. In the final year, students choose two modules, such as Facilitating Practice, which builds experience in teaching dance in diverse settings, or Industry Practice, which sharpens choreography, production, and entrepreneurial skills. Alternatively, they can pursue a Personal Research Project tailored to their interests. The year continues with Professional Practice, a project-based module designed to bridge academic study and industry work through engagement with professionals and creative organisations. The program culminates in the Dance Festival, where students take on production roles in a live event, refining their skills in performance, outreach, marketing, or stagecraft. This rich blend of studio practice, digital work, academic inquiry, and professional preparation ensures that graduates are ready for diverse careers in dance, from performance and choreography to teaching, community arts, and arts management.
