COURSE CURRICULUM

Year 1 covers a range of modules focusing on practical theatre skills. "The Playful Body" explores physical theatre, balance, energy, and movement through workshops, while introducing digital sound editing. "Actor's Toolkit 1" helps develop voice, movement, and textual analysis skills, including an introduction to lighting practice. "Vocal Points" integrates musicality into theatre through song, instruments, and live music, with a focus on creating original performances and promotional materials. "Performance Festival 1" involves creating a final performance in small groups, applying skills learned throughout the year and preparing marketing materials for the event. Year 2 focuses on advancing theatre and performance skills. "From Grave to Stage" explores traditional acting styles, historical texts, and the evolving role of the actor, with an introduction to audio drama and microphone use. "Acting in Digital Worlds" looks at performing in both live and virtual environments, focusing on media, technology, and acting for the camera. "Actor's Toolkit 2" enhances employability with skills in stage combat, dance, accent, and dialogue, building on movement and vocal techniques. "Performance Festival 2" involves creating a final performance with a student-led creative brief for public viewing, focusing on high standards suitable for external festivals, along with promotional editing skills. Year 3 focuses on refining individual and group performance skills. "Going Solo" encourages self-reflection and exploring identity through solo performances, with an emphasis on themes like gender, race, and culture. "Collective Encounters" focuses on group performance, considering genres, audiences, and spaces, culminating in an ensemble performance that incorporates political and social themes. "Professional Production and Showcase" is a double module where students work with a professional director to rehearse and present two performances: one a full-scale production and the other a showcase of short monologues and scenes, demonstrating their range of talents and professional rehearsal discipline.
