COURSE CURRICULUM

The Renewable Energy MSc program, offered through both Engineering and Management routes, equips students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in the field of sustainable energy technologies. Compulsory modules common to both routes include Renewable Energy Technologies 1 and 2, providing a solid foundation in solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, wave, tidal energy systems, and in-depth understanding of energy storage, bioenergy, smart grids, and energy harvesting. Engineering-specific modules such as Solar Energy Engineering, Engineering Stress Analysis using FEA, and Fluid Mechanics and Loading focus on technical design, simulation, and performance evaluation. Students gain hands-on experience with tools like ABAQUS and study complex systems such as offshore structures and dynamic responses in marine environments. Modules like Design of Offshore Energy Structures and Energy Systems Case Studies enhance understanding of load analysis, site-specific design conditions, and multidisciplinary project execution. The management route includes specialised modules such as Engineering Design and Project Management, Energy Economics and Policy, Health, Safety and Environmental Risk, and Sustainability and Environmental Assessment. These cover sustainable product development, economic modelling, policy evaluation, environmental legislation, ISO standards, and life cycle analysis. A shared module, Energy Entrepreneurship, offers critical business planning and finance skills required for launching and managing renewable ventures. The program also includes elective modules such as Energy Systems Case Studies and a Short Research Project, allowing students to apply technical or managerial concepts in real-world or research scenarios. Upon completion, students are expected to critically analyse renewable energy technologies and infrastructures, design sustainable systems, manage engineering or entrepreneurial projects, and evaluate policy, economic, and environmental challenges in the renewable energy sector. This integrated approach prepares graduates for technical, research, and strategic roles in the energy transition industry.
