COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Thermal Power and Propulsion with a focus on Power, Propulsion and the Environment offers a comprehensive suite of modules covering gas turbine performance, turbomachinery, combustors, engine systems, operations, management, and propulsion integration. Compulsory modules provide an in-depth understanding of gas turbine types, component performance, diagnostics, and simulation using industry-standard software such as TURBOMATCH and PYTHIA. Students study the aerodynamic design and performance of compressors and turbines, including advanced blade cooling techniques such as convection, impingement, film, transpiration, and liquid cooling. Combustor design and performance, fuel properties, emissions control, and computational methods are also covered, along with gas turbine system operation for aero, marine, and industrial applications, and performance assessment of steam and diesel engines. The program includes management training focused on technology leadership, strategic decision-making, teamwork, negotiation, and presentation skills. Elective modules allow further specialization, including computational fluid dynamics for turbomachinery, jet engine control systems, marine propulsion system integration, aircraft propulsion system performance, and space propulsion. Across all modules, students develop technical, analytical, and professional skills, enabling them to evaluate, simulate, and integrate propulsion systems, assess performance under different operating conditions, and consider environmental, regulatory, and techno-economic factors, preparing graduates for leadership roles in engineering, energy, and propulsion sectors.
