COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Management for Business MSc provides students with the knowledge and skills to address sustainability challenges in a business context, balancing environmental, social, and economic considerations. The program covers core areas such as principles of sustainability, leading corporate sustainability, economic valuation and appraisal, sustainability and environmental assessment, environmental policy and risk governance, and decision science. Students learn to critically evaluate frameworks like the Sustainable Development Goals, natural capital, ecosystem services, circular economy, and doughnut economics, and apply these to real-world business and environmental problems. The course develops capabilities in corporate sustainability strategy, stakeholder engagement, environmental accounting, lifecycle analysis, policy development, and risk governance, enabling students to design evidence-based, sustainable solutions. Elective modules allow students to explore strategic foresight, energy entrepreneurship, energy systems case studies, and engineering design and project management, providing opportunities to apply theory in practical contexts. Through case studies, group exercises, and scenario planning, students develop practical skills in environmental assessment, economic appraisal, strategic planning, innovation, and sustainability leadership. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped to evaluate complex sustainability issues, implement strategies for environmental and social impact management, and lead initiatives that integrate sustainability into business decision-making, supporting organisational resilience, adaptability, and long-term sustainable success.
