COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Automotive Engineering provides a comprehensive set of compulsory modules designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to address the technological challenges in the automotive sector. The Vehicle Design, Propulsion and Performance module explores propulsion options, vehicle dynamics, driveline systems, and legislative requirements, providing a thorough understanding of vehicle systems integration and performance prediction. Automotive Control and Simulation focuses on classical control theory and introduces MATLAB and Simulink for modelling and control system design. The Vehicle Electrification and Hybridisation module covers electric and hybrid powertrain architectures, energy storage technologies, and energy management systems, preparing students to design sustainable and high-performing vehicles. Vehicle Dynamics delves into the fundamentals of ride and handling, tyre modelling, suspension systems, and steering, linking theoretical models with practical applications. Powertrain Simulation and Performance teaches students to evaluate engine performance, emissions, and the use of simulation tools in engine development. Automotive Aerodynamics introduces students to the principles of fluid flow, wind tunnel testing, and aerodynamic design, essential for reducing drag and improving vehicle efficiency. Vehicle Structures examines the design and analysis of automotive structural components, crashworthiness, and the use of finite element methods to assess performance.
