COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Astronautics and Space Engineering offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop expertise in spacecraft systems and mission design. The compulsory modules lay a strong foundation in key disciplines. Space Systems Engineering introduces the entire lifecycle of space mission design, including sub-system configuration, environmental considerations, and performance verification. Space Propulsion covers thermofluid dynamics, launch vehicle performance, and diverse propulsion methods, from solid and liquid fuels to electric and alternative propulsion systems. Astrodynamics and Mission Analysis focuses on orbital mechanics and trajectory planning, equipping students with techniques to evaluate and execute complex space missions. In addition to core modules, students choose from a range of elective modules to deepen their specialisation. Options like Advanced Composite Analysis teach the mechanics and design of lightweight, high-strength materials critical to aerospace structures. Aerospace Navigation and Sensors examines satellite and inertial navigation systems, emphasising data fusion through Kalman filtering. Finite Element Analysis introduces students to numerical simulation tools to model structural behaviour. Guidance, Navigation, and Control of Space Systems explores feedback control systems, estimation techniques, and their applications to spacecraft and planetary rovers.Mathematics and Programming for Astrodynamics equips students with applied tools to solve realistic mission scenarios, including Lambert problems, low thrust trajectories, and libration point orbits. Satellite Communications focuses on communication systems, covering signal modulation, antenna design, and link budgeting. Each module blends theoretical understanding with hands-on experience, often using MATLAB for simulation and analysis. Collectively, this curriculum equips students with the multidisciplinary skills required for careers in satellite design, mission planning, launch operations, and other advanced areas of the space sector. The program ensures graduates are ready to contribute to both established and emerging domains of the global space industry.
