COURSE CURRICULUM

The course consists of a taught component and either a Group Design Project and Individual Research Project (Aircraft Design and Structural Design options) or an Individual Design Project (Avionic Systems Design option). Compulsory modules: Introduction to Aerospace Vehicle Design; Design Driven Innovation for Engineers. Option-specific modules include: Aircraft Aerodynamics; Flight Dynamics Principles; Aircraft Stability and Control; Detail Stressing; Aircraft Weight, Balance and Trim; Aircraft Powerplant Systems; Avionic Systems Essentials; Design of Airframe Systems; Aircraft Armament Systems; Aerospace Software Engineering; Air-Vehicle Modelling and Simulation; Finite Element Methods; Airframe Systems; Computer Aided Design (CAD); Design of Airframe Systems; Detail Stressing; Fatigue Fracture Mechanics and Damage Tolerance; Fundamentals of Rotorcraft Performance, Stability and Control; Initial Aircraft Design; Integrated Vehicle Health Management; Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics; Introduction to Transonic Aerodynamics; Launch and Re-Entry Aerodynamics; Loading Actions; Structural Stability; Strategic Foresight. The Group Design Project aims to provide students with invaluable experience of delivering a project within an industry structured team. The Individual Research Project allows students to delve deeper into an area of specific interest.
