COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc program includes a comprehensive set of compulsory modules designed to equip students with the advanced knowledge and practical skills required in the food and agrifood industries. The Food Diagnostics module provides a strong foundation in analytical and diagnostic tools for assessing food quality and safety, including both destructive and non-destructive techniques such as spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging. Students learn to design diagnostic strategies to solve industrial challenges. The Food Safety module focuses on identifying and controlling hazards across food chains, with emphasis on microbiological hazards, food legislation, and quality management systems like HACCP and ISO standards. In the Leading Corporate Sustainability module, students explore global environmental and social challenges, stakeholder engagement, innovation, and strategic leadership for sustainable business practices. The Quality of Food and Beverages module explores how quality traits such as taste, aroma, nutrition, and texture are influenced by plant metabolism, genetics, environmental factors, and agricultural management, also enhancing research and presentation skills. Postharvest Technology covers the physiological and biochemical changes in produce after harvest, preservation methods, and waste management, enabling students to plan industrially relevant postharvest strategies. The Food Chain Resilience module addresses supply chain management strategies critical to building resilience in global food networks, covering sustainable sourcing, procurement, risk mitigation, technology use, and quality assurance frameworks like Six Sigma. Together, these modules prepare graduates to critically evaluate, innovate, and lead across a wide range of food-related sectors, fostering a deep understanding of both scientific and managerial dimensions of the food industry. The program integrates hands-on lab experience, case studies, and industry exposure, ensuring that students not only grasp theoretical concepts but can also apply them effectively in real-world contexts. With strong emphasis on sustainability, quality, safety, and innovation, this MSc equips students to navigate and impact the future of the food sector. The MSc in Aerospace Computational Engineering includes a robust suite of compulsory modules that build core competencies in digital aerospace analysis and design. The course begins with C++ Programming, where students develop object-oriented and functional programming skills tailored to solve computational engineering problems, including the numerical solution of linear systems and differential equations. Computational Methods introduces key numerical techniques for integration and the solution of differential and linear equations, enabling students to implement and analyse algorithms through hands-on lab sessions. Computational Aerodynamics explores fluid dynamics using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), enabling simulations of lift, drag, and flow behaviour around aerodynamic bodies, while also using high-performance computing (HPC) resources for large-scale simulations. The Validation and Verification for Aerospace Applications module focuses on quantifying and managing computational errors and uncertainties, providing tools to ensure simulation reliability through grid convergence studies, solution verification, and model validation. Modelling Approaches for Aerospace Applications builds on this by exploring advanced turbulence modelling and simulation techniques used in digital wind tunnel applications. Numerical Modelling for Compressible Flows covers hyperbolic partial differential equations, shock-capturing schemes, and Riemann solvers for accurately simulating compressible fluid behaviour. Computational Engineering Structures introduces Finite Element Methods (FEM), equipping students to model, analyse, and interpret structural performance using beam, truss, and stress elements while considering numerical integration and accuracy. These modules offer theoretical depth and practical training using industry-standard software tools, scripting for automation, and simulation workflows aligned with current aerospace practices. Each component is strategically designed to strengthen analytical, software, and modelling skills required in the digital transformation of aerospace engineering. The curriculum not only focuses on advanced simulations and numerical precision but also ensures students can critically assess model fidelity and computational efficiency, preparing them for the next generation of aerospace engineering challenges.
