COURSE CURRICULUM

This interdisciplinary MSc in Sustainable Finance equips you with the skills to navigate the intersection of finance, sustainability, and governance, aiming to address both national and global economic challenges. In the first semester, you'll focus on the core concepts of sustainable finance, learning research methods to evaluate financial issues related to sustainability. This semester covers topics like environmental economics and finance, where you'll examine how economic and financial analysis can address environmental degradation, and sustainability and governance, which focuses on how regulations and corporate governance influence financial markets. You'll also develop your research skills, preparing you for your dissertation.In the second semester, the course dives deeper into advanced topics, including sustainable risk management, law, ethics, and sustainability. You’ll choose one of two pathways. Pathway A focuses on socially responsible investment and carbon accounting, where you’ll explore the impact of climate change on finance and learn how to report carbon emissions effectively. Pathway B centers on Islamic finance, where you’ll learn about Islamic portfolio management, including Sharī'ah-compliant investments, and Islamic sustainable finance, emphasizing social justice and impact investing.A major component of the course is the dissertation, a 10,000-word research project that allows you to explore a topic relevant to sustainable finance. You'll also develop practical skills through modules like "Leading Strategic Change through Creativity and Innovation," where you'll analyze a live organization. By the end of the course, you'll have the tools to help resolve economic issues while supporting sustainable development goals in the finance sector.
