COURSE CURRICULUM

The modules within the MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology program are designed to develop advanced theoretical knowledge, applied skills and professional competence for working in performance-focused environments. Applied Skills in Sports Psychology focuses on developing practical techniques for supporting athletes and exercisers, including psychological skills training, consultation methods and reflective practice. Contemporary Issues in Sports Psychology explores current research, debates and emerging challenges within the field, encouraging critical evaluation of evidence and practice. Professional Practice in Sports Psychology emphasises ethical working, professional standards and effective practitioner–client relationships, preparing students for real-world practice. Talent Development and Management in Sport examines the psychological factors involved in identifying, nurturing and managing talent across different stages of athletic development and organisational contexts. The professional placement within the master’s degree provides valuable experiential learning, enabling students to apply theory in applied settings and gain insight into industry expectations. The Independent Research Project represents a substantial piece of original research, allowing students to investigate an area of personal or professional interest in depth. Together, these modules integrate theory, practice and research, equipping graduates with the skills, experience and confidence needed to progress toward professional practice, further training or research careers in sport and exercise psychology.
