COURSE CURRICULUM

This course includes five compulsory modules that collectively provide a comprehensive education in the field of petroleum and process engineering, with a focus on real-world industry applications. Drilling, Production and Process Engineering explores the complete lifecycle of a well, from design and construction to completion, while examining the behaviour of reservoir fluids and the technologies involved in drilling and production. The module also introduces hydrocarbon transport systems, covering pipeline operations, flow assurance, and gas-to-liquid conversion, all essential for modern oil and gas operations. Hydrogen, Engineering Materials and Flow Assurance Systems shifts focus to the emerging hydrogen energy sector, addressing production, storage, and safety, as well as infrastructure and regulations. You will also study advanced material selection, corrosion management, and use software tools like ANSYS, OLGA, and H2FillS to model complex systems in both oil and gas and hydrogen industries. Reservoir Evaluation and Simulation provides an in-depth look at how to model and manage oil reservoirs using seismic, geological, and well log data. You’ll learn how to optimise reservoir performance using simulation techniques, including history matching and uncertainty analysis, while gaining experience in using industry-standard software. Health, Safety, Risk and Project Management Systems equips you with the knowledge to ensure workplace safety and manage projects effectively. You will learn to apply safety legislation, perform risk assessments, and use best practices in project management to contribute to efficient and secure project execution. The Research Project gives you the opportunity to carry out an independent, in-depth investigation in your chosen technical area. You will manage your own research process from problem identification to final reporting, while developing essential skills in data analysis, critical evaluation, and professional communication. This module also enhances your awareness of ethical, safety and risk-related issues relevant to technical and engineering research.
