COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Public Health program is structured to equip students with the critical, analytical, and practical skills necessary to understand and address health challenges across diverse populations and contexts. Beginning with foundational knowledge, the Understanding Epidemiology in a Global Context module introduces the principles and application of epidemiology, supporting students in interpreting evidence to inform public health decisions. Thinking Critically for a Global Context helps develop analytical thinking and study skills, ensuring students can evaluate literature effectively to make sound decisions in complex global scenarios. Medical Anthropology introduces students to anthropological perspectives, encouraging an understanding of how cultural and social factors influence health outcomes. These ideas are carried through the course, especially into modules such as Social Determinants of Global Public Health, where the impact of inequalities and societal factors on health are analysed through global examples. Contemporary Issues in Global Public Health keeps the curriculum relevant by focusing on current and emerging health challenges, offering students the opportunity to engage with real-time global issues. Emergency Response and Preparedness in Global Public Health enhances leadership and strategic thinking in the context of crisis response, drawing on case studies to critique and propose effective emergency health strategies. The module on Leading and Creating Organisational Health and Wellbeing explores the relationship between leadership, workplace culture, and health outcomes, offering practical strategies to improve wellbeing in organisations. The program culminates in a 50-credit Dissertation, allowing students to explore a chosen public health issue in depth, developing evidence-based solutions with guidance from academic staff. Overall, the program fosters a multidisciplinary approach, blending scientific, social, and strategic perspectives, and prepares students for leadership roles in public health practice, policy, and research on a global stage.
