COURSE CURRICULUM

The Forensic Psychology MSc is structured around a set of modules that develop a strong foundation in psychological theory, research, and applied practice within forensic and criminal justice settings. Offending Behaviour and the Criminal Justice System explores psychological explanations of criminal behaviour and examines how individuals move through the justice process, from investigation to sentencing and rehabilitation. Project Planning and Ethics focuses on designing and managing research or applied projects, with emphasis on ethical practice, professional standards, and governance in forensic psychology. Research Methods in Psychology equips students with advanced skills in research design, data collection, and analysis, enabling critical evaluation of psychological evidence. Interventions with Forensic Client Groups examines evidence-based approaches to assessment and intervention with diverse forensic populations, including offenders with complex needs. Forensic Risk Assessment and Management develops specialist skills in evaluating, managing, and reducing risk, using contemporary assessment tools and frameworks applied in real-world settings. The Independent Research Project allows students to undertake an in-depth investigation into a chosen area of forensic psychology, demonstrating their ability to apply theory and research methods to a substantial piece of independent work. Together, these modules prepare graduates for professional practice, further training, and research careers within forensic psychology and the wider criminal justice system.
