COURSE CURRICULUM

The program includes a comprehensive set of modules focused on emergency management, crisis response, and leadership. The Emergency Planning and Preparedness module provides critical understanding of the processes and structures involved in developing strategies for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Integrated Emergency Management: Policy and Issues teaches students to analyze emergency management policies and design integrated plans for the UK and other developed nations, while Community Preparedness, Recovery, and Resilience examines community resilience and its role in disaster management, with case studies to assess the roles of professionals, public services, and NGOs. Risk, Incidents, and Leadership develops leadership and decision-making skills for managing crises, focusing on risk reduction and leadership models. Training and Exercise Design and Delivery explores how to plan and manage disaster exercises and programs, emphasizing project management and evaluation. Foresight, Insight, and Strategy focuses on long-term planning in a changing world, addressing complex challenges like climate change and political shifts. Research Perspectives and Practice introduces students to research methods in emergency management, including both quantitative and qualitative techniques. Business Continuity and Crisis Management develops skills to assess risks and apply strategies for managing them within organizations. The Working Paper module allows students to work on a key issue within the sector, producing an industry-focused paper with recommendations for change. Leading Diverse Workforces equips students with the knowledge to lead diverse teams effectively, covering leadership theories, cultural awareness, and strategies for promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion. Successful completion of this module makes students eligible for the CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice. Overall, the program prepares students for leadership roles in emergency management and crisis response across various sectors.
