COURSE CURRICULUM

The modules in this phase of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering program focus on cutting-edge technologies in automotive and energy sectors. The Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives (30 credits) module enhances understanding of power electronics and electrical machines, focusing on integrating them into modern electric drive systems for industrial applications. Topics include semiconductor materials, converter topologies, advanced switching techniques, and the electromagnetic behavior of DC and AC electrical machines. The EV Powertrain (30 credits) module provides a comprehensive understanding of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), including their subsystems and control mechanisms. This module involves model-based design, focusing on control theory and the analysis of BEV systems, component integration, and performance optimization using automotive industry standards. In the Advanced Energy Storage: Devices and Management (30 credits) module, students explore energy storage technologies such as batteries, supercapacitors, and hydrogen fuel cells, with a focus on hybridization and energy management strategies. This module also covers Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and Battery Management Systems (BMS), including state estimation, thermal management, and standards. The Automotive Embedded Applications (30 credits) module provides a deep dive into the development of complex automotive ECU systems. Students gain hands-on experience with advanced microcontrollers, sensors, automotive network protocols like CAN, LIN, and Ethernet, and practical laboratory work. The Individual Project (60 credits) is a major component of the program, where students apply their learning to solve a significant technical problem. This project, typically industrial or research-based, is self-directed but supervised, allowing students to demonstrate their problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills.
