COURSE CURRICULUM

This postgraduate Cyber Security course is delivered over three semesters, combining theoretical understanding with practical application. In the first semester, students explore fundamental topics such as network security, cryptography, secure design and development, and ethical hacking. These modules lay the groundwork by teaching both defensive and offensive security techniques. Ethical hacking focuses on penetration testing, helping students gain hands-on experience in identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities in systems. The second semester shifts focus toward defence mechanisms, including modules on intrusion detection and response, and digital data acquisition, recovery, and analysis. These modules prepare students for real-world cyber threats by teaching techniques for handling digital evidence and managing incident responses. Depending on the chosen pathway, students will also specialize in an area of interest such as general cyber security, automotive cyber security, technical cyber security, or cyber security management. For instance, students selecting the general pathway may study emerging connected systems and digital security risk management. Those in the automotive pathway will explore cyber security issues in connected and autonomous vehicles, while the technical path combines elements of emerging systems and automotive topics. The cyber security management pathway covers areas like information security frameworks and security audits. In the final semester, students complete an individual research project worth 60 credits, which allows them to demonstrate their understanding by tackling a real-world problem or conducting in-depth research under expert supervision. The course integrates both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring students are prepared for professional roles in cyber security. The program also includes opportunities for certification and exposure to industry tools, further enhancing employability. With its comprehensive structure and specialization options, this course is designed to develop well-rounded professionals capable of addressing current and future challenges in the cyber security field.
