COURSE CURRICULUM

The course includes several modules designed to equip students with the essential skills needed in the construction industry. The Strategic Management and Stakeholder Integration module (30 credits) offers an in-depth exploration of project processes, focusing on areas such as scope, time, cost, quality, risk management, and soft systems methodology. This module aims to enhance students’ technical capabilities and understanding of project dynamics to navigate real-world construction scenarios effectively. The Construction Innovation, Digitalisation, and Sustainability module (30 credits) provides knowledge of innovative technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to optimise workflows, mitigate risks, and improve project costing, delivery, and safety. This module also emphasises sustainability and reducing carbon emissions within the industry. The Construction Law and Contract Administration Procedures, Risk module (30 credits) helps students develop a comprehensive understanding of contract law, focusing on contract formation, award, and administration, while offering practical experience through problem-based learning and role-playing exercises. The Construction Procurement and Cost, Finance Management module (30 credits) delves into the financial implications of construction projects, helping students manage project costs from the early stages through to completion. This module covers cost estimation, cash flows, and project forecasting to ensure commercial viability. The Research Project module (60 credits) provides an opportunity to design and conduct an independent research project in areas such as engineering, construction, sustainability, or energy. Students will learn about research design, data collection, analysis, and project management, while also improving their communication skills and understanding of ethics, safety, and risk. These modules provide a comprehensive skillset for those aiming to take on leadership roles in the construction industry.
