COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering MSc is structured around a comprehensive set of modules that develop advanced technical, analytical, and professional skills required in modern civil engineering practice. Transport Infrastructure Engineering focuses on the planning, design, and management of transport systems, including highways and related infrastructure, with consideration of safety, sustainability, and performance. Advanced Analysis of Structures develops a deeper understanding of structural behaviour, covering advanced modelling, analysis techniques, and the assessment of complex structures. Construction Law and Contract Practice Procedures introduces the legal and contractual frameworks that govern construction projects, helping students understand risk management, procurement methods, and professional responsibilities. The Geotechnics and Materials module explores soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and the behaviour and selection of construction materials, linking theory with practical applications. The program also includes a Master’s with professional placement, allowing students to gain valuable industry experience and apply academic knowledge in real-world engineering environments. The Research Project provides the opportunity to undertake an independent, in-depth investigation into a chosen area of civil engineering, developing research, problem-solving, and project management skills while demonstrating the ability to deliver a substantial piece of postgraduate-level work aligned with professional and industry standards.
