COURSE CURRICULUM

The course includes several core modules that are essential for developing a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering. The Transport Infrastructure Engineering module, worth 30 credits, focuses on the analysis, design, and maintenance of highway pavements and bridges. It also covers railway infrastructure, its components, maintenance, and operations, using advanced software and lab equipment to reinforce the theoretical knowledge. The Advanced Analysis of Structures module, also 30 credits, builds on existing knowledge of structural mechanics and numerical methods, providing deeper insights into material failure and structural analysis. Students apply elastic and plastic theory, and learn to analyze reinforced concrete slabs using yield line theory. The module also includes projects using finite element techniques and industry case studies, supported by advanced software. Another key module, Construction Law and Contract Practice Procedures (30 credits), equips students with essential skills in contract creation and management, emphasizing the importance of understanding contract law, legal principles, and risk in construction projects. Through role-play exercises and problem-based learning, students gain practical experience in contract awarding and administration, exploring the main contract forms used in the industry. Lastly, the Geotechnics and Materials module (30 credits) enhances technical skills related to soil-structure interaction and sustainable materials. Students also explore emerging technologies such as AI, BIM, and 3D concrete printing, and apply life cycle and carbon assessments to infrastructure. This module integrates advanced software and lab equipment to support theoretical learning, ensuring an engaging and hands-on experience.
