COURSE CURRICULUM
In this final year of study, there is a clear emphasis on advanced engineering tools and techniques, with a strong focus on Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). This includes the application of industry-standard software for Computer Aided Design (CAD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Multibody Simulations (MBS). Students are encouraged to enhance their existing knowledge and apply mathematical and computer-based models to solve real-world problems, including those in unfamiliar or evolving environments. The module on Aerodynamics and Vehicle Dynamics (30 credits) dives deep into the behaviour of wheeled vehicles, addressing both aerodynamic forces and vehicle handling through analytical, simulation, and experimental methods. Future Automotive Technologies (30 credits) introduces cutting-edge innovations in electric propulsion and Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs), while promoting a multidisciplinary approach to vehicle development. The module provides exposure to practical applications such as electric vehicle laboratories and autonomous vehicle projects. In Generative Design (30 credits), students apply systems engineering principles to manage complex design challenges and learn optimization techniques using CAD tools. The focus is on the integration of generative and parametric design for efficient, simulated 3D modelling. Structural Integrity and Dynamic Behaviour (30 credits) tackles stress analysis and the reaction of structures to dynamic loading, such as vibration and impact. It combines theoretical study with practical problem-solving, preparing students for structural challenges in modern engineering environments. The Individual Project (60 credits) is a major capstone experience where students independently address a significant engineering problem, often linked to industry or research. Under academic supervision, students apply skills from throughout their degree to produce a professional-level solution, demonstrating autonomy, technical knowledge, and a deep understanding of their specialist area. Overall, this year is designed to equip students with the tools, confidence, and experience needed for a successful transition into advanced engineering roles.
