COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Advanced Software Engineering is structured around a comprehensive set of modules that develop both depth and breadth in modern software engineering practice. The Advanced Software Development module focuses on complex programming techniques, frameworks, and tools used to build robust, scalable, and high-performance applications, while strengthening problem-solving and coding skills. Software Architecture and Design develops an understanding of how to design well-structured software systems, covering architectural patterns, design principles, and techniques for managing complexity in large-scale applications. The Software Quality Assurance and Testing module emphasises the importance of reliability and performance, introducing testing strategies, automated testing tools, and quality management practices to ensure software meets professional and industry standards. Software Security addresses the growing need for secure systems, exploring common vulnerabilities, secure coding practices, risk assessment, and methods for protecting software from cyber threats. The program also includes a Master’s with professional placement, giving students valuable industry exposure and the opportunity to apply academic learning in a real-world environment. The Individual Research Project allows students to undertake an in-depth investigation into a chosen area of software engineering, developing research, analytical, and project management skills while demonstrating their ability to deliver a substantial and independent piece of work.
