Year 1 Architecture MArch at Coventry University is taught as a discipline that combines technical, professional, social, and environmental sustainability. The program emphasizes architecture as both a social practice and a technical process that spans science and the arts. The goal is to provide an education that matches the complexity of architecture while challenging students to reach their full potential.Modules include Design, Process and Communication (30 credits), where students engage with contemporary urban environments, focusing on issues like master planning and regeneration. The Comprehensive Design module (40 credits) helps students synthesize knowledge and skills by designing specific buildings, considering spatial, structural, constructional, and environmental strategies. Construction Technology and Environmental Design (20 credits) supports both design modules, exploring topics like fire engineering and façade design through case studies. Cultural Context (20 credits) offers theoretical insights into current architectural debates, while the Integrated Project (10 credits) emphasizes collaborative and professional skills, involving group work and the integration of technical and economic aspects.In the second year, students explore the complexities of architecture through modules like Research for Design (20 credits), where they define a personal research project and its theoretical context. Professional Practice and Management (10 credits) covers professionalism, practice setup, and legal aspects within the architectural profession.
