COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Global Security addresses critical global security challenges such as terrorism, human trafficking, modern slavery, and organised crime, evaluating their impact on international stability. The course aims to develop students' analytical and practical skills for careers in security, governance, and human rights. It begins with a focus on the globalisation of organised crime, where students explore transnational threats such as human trafficking, drug trafficking, and money laundering, while assessing the responses of states, law enforcement agencies, and international organisations to these issues. The Terrorism and Extremism module delves into the causes, ideologies, and consequences of terrorism, as well as the ethical dilemmas surrounding counterterrorism efforts. Students explore the complex relationship between terrorism and other forms of violence and protest. The Manifestations of International Organised Crime module further examines global criminal networks, focusing on issues such as money laundering and illegal arms trading, while assessing how states respond to these challenges. The Global Affairs in Action module engages students with real-world case studies in warfare, rebellion, and security, providing opportunities to interact with international security practitioners and apply academic knowledge in practical scenarios. The Terrorism and Global Security module examines current global security threats, with a focus on the impact of terrorism on international stability. Finally, the Countering Organised Crime and Modern Slavery module explores effective counter-crime strategies, focusing on human trafficking and modern slavery. Through these modules, students gain the expertise needed to contribute to global security efforts and address the evolving challenges of international crime and conflict.
