COURSE CURRICULUM

The curriculum for this course is designed to provide in-depth exploration of contemporary music industry practices, focusing on a range of key modules that develop both practical and theoretical expertise. The Musician’s Craft module allows students to dive deep into their craft as performers, songwriters, or creative artists, developing a personalized specialization in their chosen musical field. Through hands-on exploration and close collaboration with tutors, students refine their professional and musical skills. Performance and Technology focuses on experimenting with various forms and techniques while exploring how technology can enhance both recorded and live music experiences. Students work towards a live performance event that integrates music technologies, which is followed by a reflective discussion of their creative practices. Presence, Persona, and Identity provides an opportunity for students to develop their professional profile in areas like pedagogy, entrepreneurship, performance, or composition, or explore a combination of these areas. This module encourages a personalized approach through a negotiated project that emphasizes research-informed, innovative practices.The Creative Frontiers Project offers personalized learning through independent research, allowing students to explore a specific area of the creative industries. The project culminates in a practical outcome such as a performance, composition, or production, with supporting commentary. Professional Practice and Innovation examines the creative industries' ecologies, connecting independent, commercial, and public sectors. This module, developed in collaboration with the RSA, covers topics like leadership, sustainability, and future skills development. Lastly, the Collaborative Technologies module provides practical experience with high-end production equipment, allowing students to work on collaborative projects such as film, music, and motion capture. Students develop communication, technical, and networking skills while engaging with industry practitioners. These modules collectively aim to prepare students for a professional career in the dynamic and evolving music industry.
