COURSE CURRICULUM

In the final year of the International Relations program, students focus on applying theoretical knowledge to real-world global issues, gaining advanced insight into key challenges and practices in global affairs. The module "Diplomacy and Human Rights" delves into the evolution of diplomacy and its role in protecting individual rights during crises, encouraging critical reflection and independent research into the effectiveness of international laws and diplomatic strategies. In "Sustainability and Resilience," students explore how global issues such as climate change, terrorism, and economic instability are being addressed through theories of sustainability and resilience, examining their relevance in today’s interconnected world. "Security, Warfare and Rebellion" offers a deep analysis of historical and current security conflicts, from state warfare to non-state rebellions, enabling students to understand the cultural and political roots of violence and insecurity. Meanwhile, "Global Affairs in Action," created in collaboration with the Royal Society of Arts, presents a practical, hands-on approach to learning by engaging with field experts and security institutions, bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world practice. This is complemented by "Managing International Affairs," where students explore peace processes, conflict resolution and international relations theory through case studies that help build analytical and interpretive skills. The final module, "Crime and Justice in the International System," addresses pressing issues such as corruption, modern slavery, and human trafficking. Students examine the effectiveness of international legal frameworks like the United Nations Convention against Corruption and explore ethical, legal, and policy-based responses. Collectively, these modules equip students with the research, critical thinking, and practical skills needed for a career in international governance, policy-making, diplomacy, advocacy or further academic study, fostering a deep understanding of the global systems and challenges that shape our world today.
