COURSE CURRICULUM
This course offers a comprehensive and practical exploration of journalism, media, and communication, preparing students for dynamic careers in the creative and digital industries. The Print and Digital Skills module builds essential abilities in feature writing, layout design, and content management systems, enabling students to produce professional journalistic content for both print and digital platforms. It also offers valuable opportunities to engage in live briefs with industry partners or in-house university projects. In the Audio, Video and Immersive Production module, students develop the technical and creative skills necessary to produce high-quality multimedia content. This includes scripting, recording, editing and storytelling for broadcast and online platforms. Working independently and with industry collaborators, students are encouraged to deliver original and engaging stories. Global Media Industries and Systems expands students’ understanding of how global journalism, film, PR, and communication industries function. It covers the political, economic, technological and regulatory forces that shape media systems worldwide, fostering a critical global perspective. The Global PR and Communication module focuses on advanced strategies and theories in public relations, particularly how these apply to modern digital channels. Students examine emerging trends and build practical communication skills for global campaigns. The Independent Project module allows students to undertake either a research or practice-based project, giving them the freedom to explore their own interests within the discipline. This independent work helps to refine research, planning and execution skills. Lastly, Professional Practice and Innovation introduces students to the relationship between the independent and commercial creative sectors, developed in collaboration with the Royal Society of Arts. Completion of this module earns students a digital badge, providing a credential recognized by industry leaders. Together, these modules develop not only technical proficiency but also critical thinking, creative innovation and real-world readiness for diverse roles in the media and communications landscape.
