COURSE CURRICULUM

The Filmmaking and Content Creation course is structured to provide a hands-on, industry-relevant education, equipping students with the creative, technical, and collaborative skills necessary for careers in media production. One of the key modules, Filmmaking and Content Creation, allows students to develop a dynamic portfolio aligned with their professional goals. Covering every stage of the production process—research, pre-production, shooting, and editing—students gain practical experience filming on location using professional-level equipment. The Collaborative Technologies module furthers this hands-on learning by encouraging interdisciplinary teamwork. Students collaborate with peers from other creative fields to produce live or recorded content, gaining technical expertise while learning to communicate and problem-solve across disciplines. Documentary Filmmaking and Music Video Production offers two creative paths. Students can either craft a documentary rooted in real-world social, cultural or political narratives or collaborate with local artists to create music videos, tapping into Coventry’s vibrant creative scene. This module sharpens storytelling skills and fosters engagement with real communities or clients. In Advanced Career Paths in Film and Media, students explore the shifting landscape of the industry, critically engaging with trends, roles and career trajectories while building a research portfolio aligned to their chosen specialisation. The Creative Frontiers Project provides the opportunity to tailor their learning further through independent research. Whether producing an academic essay or a practice-based piece, students can delve deep into a topic of personal and professional significance, demonstrating conceptual understanding and industry insight. Finally, Professional Practice and Innovation bridges the academic and commercial worlds. Created in partnership with the RSA, this module helps students examine the intersection between independent creativity and commercial viability. Completing the module awards students with an RSA digital credential, recognising their readiness for innovation within the creative industries. This comprehensive curriculum ensures graduates leave with both the creative vision and technical competence to thrive in film and media.
