In the American Wests module, you will study how diverse cultural groups, including African American, Native American, and Japanese American communities, portray the relationship between people and the land in the American West. Romantic Environments focuses on the Romantic period’s view of the environment, examining literature, poetry, philosophy, and life writing. The module highlights various settings, such as gardens and cities, while challenging male-dominated perspectives by emphasizing the works of female authors. In the Postcoloniality and Environment: Narratives of Waste module, you will analyze global literature and real-world scenarios to explore how environmental degradation connects with inequality and social injustice. The module integrates eco-criticism and postcolonialism to offer fresh perspectives on the environmental crisis through creative projects and close readings. Professional Practice and Innovation takes a practical approach, focusing on the interrelations within the creative industries. In collaboration with the RSA, this module provides valuable professional experience, and successful completion earns you RSA digital badging. Gothic Nightmares and Utopian Dreams introduces you to dystopian, utopian, and gothic narratives, analyzing how they interact with themes of gender, technology, and the environment. You will have the chance to design your own world, applying critical and strategic thinking. Finally, Reimagining Shakespeare explores Shakespeare’s impact on contemporary ideas about gender, race, and the environment. The module examines his work through modern theories and multimedia adaptations, encouraging critical analysis or creative exploration of Shakespeare’s enduring cultural relevance.
