COURSE CURRICULUM

The Curation MA is structured around a distinctive set of modules that support innovative, socially engaged, and professionally focused curatorial practice. The Co-Create module emphasises collaborative working, encouraging students to develop projects in partnership with artists, communities, and organisations while exploring co-production and participatory approaches. Curator as Influencer examines the role of the curator in shaping public discourse, focusing on communication, digital platforms, and strategies for reaching and engaging diverse audiences. Curator as Mediator explores how curators facilitate dialogue between artists, institutions, and communities, addressing ethical considerations, interpretation, and audience engagement. Professional Practice and Innovation supports the development of practical and entrepreneurial skills, including project management, leadership, funding, and sustainable working models within the cultural sector. The Curator as Activist module, forming the core research element of the program, allows students to undertake an in-depth, independent project that critically examines curatorial practice as a tool for social change. Together, these modules develop critical thinking, creativity, and leadership, preparing graduates to work confidently in contemporary curatorial roles across galleries, museums, community-based organisations, and independent cultural initiatives.
