COURSE CURRICULUM

This course equips students with the skills to create engaging narratives for contemporary and emerging platforms, such as gaming, online media, and graphic novels. Students will explore creative technologies, develop innovative work, and critically examine the role of AI in the creative industries.In the Gaming and Online Media module, students create content for video games, tabletop games, YouTube, and livestreams, while learning about industry marketing processes. They will build a portfolio based on their original concepts and learn how to advertise and monetise content to attract publishers. The Graphic Novels and Illustrated Storytelling module covers the art of visual storytelling, analyzing comic books, manga, and animations. Students will adapt written text into engaging visual narratives and explore how illustrated stories can communicate both fiction and non-fiction.The Writing the Contemporary Novel module teaches novel planning, writing, and pitching. Students will write the opening chapters of a novel and create a professional package to present to literary agents, focusing on genre-based writing and targeting specific audiences. Creative Nonfiction introduces students to memoirs, personal essays, and cultural criticism. Through workshops and discussions, they will develop skills in writing, pitching, and publishing creative nonfiction.Authorship, Technology, and the Digital Age examines how technology and AI are reshaping authorship and the writing process. Students will explore the evolving role of the author in the digital landscape. The Professional Practice and Innovation module, developed with the RSA, allows students to explore the relationships between independent, commercial, and public sectors in the creative industries. Upon successful completion, students will receive a digital credential from the RSA, enhancing their professional profile.
