COURSE CURRICULUM

The course modules are designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of the media, communication, and creative industries, blending both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. In the first year, you will study Digital Screen Cultures, which helps you critically engage with digital media as a socio-cultural phenomenon and explores how audiences interact with media. The Global Media Industries and Systems module will provide insight into the global factors influencing media industries, including politics, socio-economics, and technology, and inform your understanding through case studies and contemporary research. Professional Practice and Innovation allows you to investigate the interconnectedness of the creative industries, considering independent, commercial, and public sectors. This module is developed in collaboration with the RSA, offering a digital credential upon completion. Research Methods is essential in honing your investigative skills, focusing on the ethical and theoretical tools necessary for effective research in communications and media. You will study methodologies and contemporary debates, enhancing your ability to conduct professional research projects. In the Global Public Relations and Communication module, you will deepen your understanding of public relations theories and practices, with an emphasis on digital platforms and channels. This module also connects you with industry representatives, providing practical insights into the professional public relations world. Lastly, the Independent Project allows you to manage an extensive piece of research, either empirical or practice-based, enabling you to apply your research skills to a project aligned with your interests and professional aspirations. This final module encourages you to engage in a project that reflects your discipline and prepares you for a career in the field.
