COURSE CURRICULUM

This postgraduate law course focuses on the specialised and evolving legal dimensions of international commerce, combining theoretical foundations with practical applications. It consists of six compulsory modules, each offering in-depth knowledge of key legal areas relevant to global business and trade. The *Principles of International Law* module lays the groundwork by introducing the fundamental structures of international law, covering treaties, customary law, and the role of major international institutions like the UN and WTO. It also includes a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) component, encouraging global academic engagement. *Law and Contemporary Problems* takes a unique approach by framing legal study through the lens of current global challenges, helping students connect various legal domains to real-world issues and develop advanced research and analytical skills. In *Commercial Arbitration*, students acquire practical skills in arbitration, a key dispute resolution method in international commerce, with a focus on English arbitration law and sale of goods disputes. The *Intellectual Property and Technology* module explores the UK legal landscape within a global context, addressing the complex relationship between technology, innovation, and legal protection, with a strong emphasis on ethical and responsible legal practice. *International Economic Law* examines the legal governance of global economic systems and institutions, analysing the legal frameworks that support international financial cooperation and development. Finally, the *Postgraduate Project* offers students the opportunity to conduct independent research on a legal issue of their choice, guided by a supervisor. They can opt for either a dissertation or a project report route, allowing for flexibility in academic focus. Together, these modules equip students with a robust understanding of international legal systems and prepare them for careers that require navigating the legal complexities of global commerce and emerging technologies.
