COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law and Practice degree begins in Year 1 with a strong focus on practical application, encouraging students to apply legal principles to real-world scenarios. It introduces core areas of law such as the English legal system, public law and human rights, contract law, and criminal law. The modules provide a foundation in legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, the doctrine of precedent, and judicial redress, while also developing practical skills like mooting and dispute resolution. This initial year ensures students gain a robust theoretical and practical understanding of the law. Students who complete Year 1 successfully are awarded a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Law. Year 2 builds on this foundation by simulating the experience of working in a law firm, helping students to further develop essential skills such as issue identification, legal research, writing, and drafting. Modules focus on tort law, property law, equity and trusts, and a supervised legal research project, all of which strengthen students’ problem-solving abilities and professional judgement. This stage refines analytical skills through the practical application of tortious principles and property law while developing a deeper understanding of trust law and equitable remedies. On completion of this year, students are eligible for a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Law. The final year prepares students for professional practice by equipping them with practical skills in client care, interviewing, and advocacy. It covers civil and criminal litigation processes and explores how to manage legal cases from initial consultation to court proceedings. Modules include European Union law, civil and criminal practice, and professional conduct. Students gain hands-on experience in drafting court documents, conducting interviews, and resolving client issues through role-play. This culmination of legal training focuses on refining communication, ethical awareness, and business skills to prepare graduates for entry into the legal profession. Upon successful completion, students receive an LLB (Hons) in Law and Practice.
