COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of this course is designed to provide a solid foundation in law. It is common across multiple law degrees, allowing you to explore different legal subjects and develop essential skills for the rest of the course. You will study key modules such as English Legal System, where you will examine the sources and structures of English law; Public Law, covering constitutional law and the relationship between the state and citizens; Contract Law, focusing on the formation and enforcement of contracts; Criminal Law, which introduces you to the principles of criminal offences; Applied Law Study, which encourages practical legal problem-solving; and Contemporary Issues in the Law, examining how the law adapts to societal changes. If you develop a particular interest in a certain area, you may switch to another LLB course upon successful completion of this year.In the second year, you will deepen your understanding of core legal topics while also developing practical legal skills. Modules include Practical Legal Skills, where you will learn advocacy, drafting, and negotiation techniques; Tort Law, which covers civil liability for harm; Land Law, focusing on property law; European Union Law, exploring the EU's influence on English law; Equity and Trusts, which examines the creation and administration of trusts; and Criminal Justice, where you will study the processes within the criminal justice system.The final year is designed to prepare you for legal practice. You will work on a Project, either as a research dissertation, a work-based report, or a report based on involvement with Coventry Law Centre’s Law Clinics (subject to placement). You will also study Criminal Advocacy, which focuses on criminal trial preparation, and Law of Evidence, which examines how evidence is handled in criminal trials. This year offers the opportunity to tailor your degree through optional modules.
