COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports and Exercise Therapy BSc (Hons) course is structured across three years, with a focus on developing theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for managing sports injuries and promoting rehabilitation. In the first year, modules provide foundational scientific knowledge essential for therapeutic techniques, including human anatomy, biomechanics, and strength and conditioning. Key modules include Professional Skills in Sports and Exercise Therapy, Soft Tissue Therapy, Foundations of Anatomy, and Biomechanics for Sports and Exercise Therapists. These modules prepare students to apply evidence-based approaches, understand human movement, and utilize soft tissue techniques in therapeutic practice.In the second year, students begin to apply their knowledge through practical experiences, such as working in the on-site massage clinic. Key modules include Functional Rehabilitation, Trauma Management, Manual Therapy, and Performance Rehabilitation and Conditioning, with an emphasis on designing rehabilitation programs and managing sports-related trauma. The module on Research in Sports and Exercise Therapy develops critical research and analytical skills, preparing students for their final year project.The final year focuses on refining clinical skills through real-world application in the university’s Sports Therapy Clinic or external placements, helping students develop independence as practitioners. Modules such as Clinical Practice, Project Development, and Clinical Experience enable students to manage clinical environments, undertake independent research, and gain valuable experience in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and multidisciplinary practices. The Independent Research Project and Effective Multidisciplinary Practices modules provide students with the opportunity to engage in original research and collaborate with other professionals to address complex rehabilitation challenges. By the end of the course, students are prepared for professional accreditation and to become skilled sports and exercise therapy practitioners.
