COURSE CURRICULUM
In the final year of the Sport and Exercise Psychology program, students consolidate their theoretical knowledge and applied skills to prepare for professional practice or further study. The Applied Skills in Sports Psychology module (30 credits) offers a practical insight into the challenges faced by sport and exercise psychologists globally. Students critically evaluate psychological strategies and learn to implement them with athletes across different sporting scenarios. Contemporary Issues in Sports Psychology (30 credits) encourages critical engagement with current debates in performance enhancement and special issues within sport and exercise psychology literature. This module helps students understand the psychological and performance demands placed on athletes and how these affect performance and wellbeing. The Professional Practice in Sports Psychology module (30 credits) focuses on the development of practical skills required in one-to-one and group consultations. It explores therapeutic approaches, consultant philosophy, and multidisciplinary collaboration, enabling students to apply theory to practice in diverse sport and exercise contexts. Talent Development and Management in Sport (30 credits) examines the psychological foundations of talent identification and development, addressing the complex demands placed on athletes throughout their progression. It offers insights into how psychological theory informs long-term talent management strategies. The final module, the Independent Research Project (60 credits), allows students to undertake an empirical study on a topic of their choosing. Under academic supervision, students develop their research from hypothesis formulation to data analysis and reporting. This project integrates the International Certificate of Digital Literacy (ICDL) in Data Analytics, providing students with an additional qualification that enhances their data handling and analysis skills. Collectively, these modules are designed to prepare students for the transition from academic study to applied settings, equipping them with the confidence, experience, and professionalism required to contribute meaningfully to the field of sport and exercise psychology.
