COURSE CURRICULUM

This program offers a comprehensive pathway to understanding energy systems, sustainability, and climate change, with a focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of energy and global energy systems through key modules, such as Fundamentals of Energy and Global Energy Systems. These modules lay the groundwork for understanding energy principles and global supply chains, while also exploring sustainable environments through a focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Research/Practical Toolkit module equips students with essential research and academic skills that are necessary for further study. In the second year, the focus shifts to more specialized topics, including Climate Change, Renewable Energy Systems, and Energy Project Management. Students also develop practical skills in health and safety within the energy sector. The Fieldwork and Research Applications module enhances research skills through field experience, preparing students for their final-year research projects. In the final year, students explore advanced topics such as CCUS and Negative Emission Technologies, addressing key issues in climate change mitigation. Other modules like Renewable Heating/Cooling and Renewable Transport focus on innovative solutions for decarbonizing critical energy sectors. The Research Dissertation allows students to apply their research skills to real-world problems, while the Global and Comparative Field Studies module provides an international perspective on fieldwork and research. Throughout the program, students gain a well-rounded understanding of energy challenges, with a strong emphasis on sustainable solutions, preparing them for careers in the rapidly evolving energy industry.
