COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, the course offers a broad foundation in the built environment through a common curriculum shared across related degrees. This allows students from different fields to collaborate, exchange ideas, and develop a wide knowledge base. Students are introduced to key topics like construction materials, building surveying, and environmental sciences, along with the design process and professional skills needed for the industry. The first-year modules focus on understanding the properties of construction materials, the role of the construction industry in sustainability, and the use of digital tools like AutoCAD. Students also engage in teamwork, project management, and cost development, providing an overview of what to expect in the built environment professions. The second year builds upon this foundation by developing technical skills, study skills, professional expertise, and global awareness. Modules cover advanced construction technology, environmental systems, and legal aspects of construction. Students learn about sustainable design, supply chain management, and the financial aspects of project procurement and management. They also gain practical experience in cost estimation and digital quantification. In the final year, students focus on more specialized topics, including interdisciplinary projects, contract administration, and advanced quantity surveying. They work on group projects to demonstrate their technical and teamwork skills while developing an in-depth understanding of professional practice. Students also undertake a research dissertation, allowing them to apply their knowledge to a specific topic. By the end of the course, students are prepared to enter the workforce with a solid understanding of construction processes, project management, sustainability, and legal considerations, making them ready for careers in the built environment.
