COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the Physiotherapy program, students will engage in a range of foundational modules to build the core knowledge and skills necessary for their career. The first module, Understanding Human Health and Function, covers the anatomy of the upper quadrant of the body, including bones, joints, muscles, and the cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological systems. Students will also develop practical skills in palpation and communication. Exploring Human Movement focuses on the lower quadrant of the body, examining similar structures and including movement analysis to understand how the body works for functional goals. Person-Centred Approaches to Physiotherapy introduces the principles of physiotherapy assessment and clinical decision-making, emphasizing safe and effective goal-setting and management. Placement 1 offers the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in practice-based learning, while Becoming a Professional Practitioner focuses on developing professional values and behaviors essential for multi-professional environments. Evidence: Your Profession in a Global Context equips students with the ability to apply evidence-based practice and reflective thinking.In Year 2, the modules become more specialized. Pathways of Care in Physiotherapy Practice builds on foundational skills, introducing holistic clinical reasoning and the pathophysiology of key conditions. Placement 2 continues practice-based learning, allowing students to apply their skills in various clinical settings. Optimising Health and Wellbeing emphasizes clinical reasoning and the prevention of illness, while Placement 3 supports students in further developing their ability to practice independently. Values-Based Physiotherapy focuses on reflective practice and ethical considerations in physiotherapy, while Exploring Knowledge Through Curiosity introduces methods of enquiry and research, including quantitative and qualitative approaches.In the final year, students focus on becoming autonomous practitioners and preparing for employment. Placement 4, Engaging in Quality Practice, allows students to demonstrate their ability to manage caseloads and make evidence-informed decisions. Exploring Physiotherapy Practice builds on previous learning to prepare students for entry into the physiotherapy profession. Facilitating Change Through Physiotherapy explores career-long learning, resilience, and innovation in the profession, while Placement 5 focuses on developing autonomous practice. Leading for the Future as a Health and Care Professional encourages students to explore leadership in the healthcare sector, and The Evidence-based Practitioner: Professional Project provides an opportunity to undertake independent research, applying evidence to improve care.
