COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the program, students will follow a shared curriculum that provides a broad foundation in mathematics and physics, preparing them for specialization in later years. The modules include Calculus, where students will consolidate and extend their knowledge of calculus to prepare for more advanced topics; Algebra, which introduces modern algebra and linear algebra, building the foundation for further study in mathematics; Programming 1: Concepts and Algorithms, which teaches computational techniques essential for mathematical modeling; Probability and Statistics, covering the basics of probability theory, random variables, and statistical analysis; Mechanics and Numerical Methods, which focuses on Newtonian mechanics and numerical techniques for real-world problems; and Mathematical Case Studies, which encourages teamwork and problem-solving through practical mathematical and physics challenges. In the second year, students will deepen their understanding of both theoretical physics and mathematics. Modules like Further Calculus and Complex Analysis expand on the concepts learned in the first year, dealing with scalar and vector fields and complex variables; Linear Algebra and Differential Equations builds on the previous year’s work, exploring methods for solving differential equations and linear algebra problems; Labs offer hands-on experience with experimental techniques and computational tools; Partial Differential Equations and Analytical Mechanics introduces key methods for solving partial differential equations and exploring classical mechanics; Electrodynamics delves into the physics and mathematics of Maxwell’s equations, and Waves and Optics covers key concepts in waves, optics, and quantum mechanics. In the final year, students will focus on more specialized topics, such as Computational Physics, Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Quantum Mechanics, and Quantum Information and Quantum Computation. These modules explore cutting-edge topics in modern physics, including quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and the emerging field of quantum computation. Students will also complete a Project, an independent research project related to physics or applied mathematics, which allows them to apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world problem, further developing their critical thinking, research, and communication skills.
