COURSE CURRICULUM

This course provides a comprehensive foundation in geography with an emphasis on environmental challenges, natural hazards, and sustainable solutions. In the first year, students explore core concepts across both human and physical geography. Modules such as A Changing Environment and Global Environmental Issues introduce global frameworks like the SDGs, while Dynamic Landscapes and People and Place examine interactions between humans and their environment. Students also develop practical skills in research and analysis, including GIS, through the Research/Practical Toolkit module. A UK-based field trip enhances hands-on learning.In the second year, the course deepens understanding of climate change, ecosystems, and spatial data analysis. Modules like Climate Change and Rivers and Coasts cover both scientific theory and real-world implications. Applied GIS and Remote Sensing builds technical capabilities using geospatial data, while Biogeography and Environmental Change explores the distribution of species and their ecological responses. Fieldwork and Research Applications prepares students for their final-year dissertation, including an international field trip to develop field research techniques. The year concludes with a module focusing on evaluating the SDGs through applied case studies.The final year is designed to prepare students for professional careers or further study. Students engage with advanced themes such as geomorphological processes in Applied Geomorphology and Mapping and conduct a self-directed Research Dissertation. The Global and Comparative Field Studies module allows students to apply critical thinking in an international context, developing skills in data collection, observation, and risk assessment. Across all years, the course highlights the relevance of geography in tackling pressing global issues such as climate action, sustainable development, and community resilience, providing students with the knowledge and practical experience needed for roles in environmental consultancy, planning, and disaster management.
