The Forensic Science degree is a comprehensive program that progresses through three years, gradually building theoretical knowledge and practical skills. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of chemical and biological analysis, forensic science principles, and legal frameworks. Key modules include Criminal and Civil Law, Crime Scene Examination, and Human and Physical Evidence, all designed to develop core competencies in evidence collection, laboratory safety, scientific reporting, and teamwork. Students learn the basics of anatomy, genetics, laboratory techniques, and the “crime scene to court” process, gaining hands-on experience through simulatedscenarios.Inn the second year, the curriculum deepens in complexity with a focus on specialized evidence analysis and complex crime scenes. Modules such as Forensic Genetics, Trace, Marks and Impressions, and Complex Crime Scene Examination build on the foundations of the first year. Students explore advanced DNA profiling, environmental and situational challenges in crime scene management, and the forensic analysis of drugs and toxic substances. The integration of practical skills and theoretical knowledge is emphasized through modules like Evidence, Analysis and Interpretation, and the application of 3D forensic modelling and virtual reality technology enhances their investigative capabilities.The final year emphasizes global forensic practices and advanced scientific techniques. Students conduct independent research and design investigative projects, applying knowledge from earlier years. Modules such as International Forensic Science and Advances in Biological Analysis explore global crime challenges, novel technologies like CRISPR and nanopore sequencing, and post-mortem microbiological methods. The program culminates in the “Crime Scene to Courtroom” module, where students simulate real-world forensic reporting and defend their findings in a mock trial setting. Additionally, “Case Studies in Industry” exposes students to forensic applications across environmental, pharmaceutical, and food sectors, preparing them for diverse career paths within and beyond traditional forensic science roles.
