COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Computing Science provides a progressive and practical learning experience, beginning with core technical fundamentals and advancing toward contemporary computing issues and technologies. In the first year, students are introduced to the building blocks of computing, including programming in a high-level language, computer networking, operating systems, and information security. These modules blend theory with hands-on application, developing core skills while addressing key risks in today’s digital landscape.Year two deepens students' understanding of how computing systems function and interact. Hardware, algorithms, data structures, and web development are explored in more complexity, while human-computer interaction encourages innovation in design. A strong focus is placed on collaboration and communication skills, essential for team-based computing projects and industry readiness.The final year explores cutting-edge fields such as Big Data and the Internet of Things, while reinforcing a critical understanding of computing in real-world, organisational, and societal contexts. Ethical considerations, global trends, and professional responsibilities are tackled in the Contemporary Issues module. The program culminates in a substantial independent project, where students apply their technical and analytical skills to a problem of their choice—bridging academic knowledge with practical innovation and future career goals.
