COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the civil engineering program provides a broad foundation, shared across related courses like Civil Engineering BEng (Hons), Civil Engineering BSc (Hons), and Civil and Environmental Engineering BEng (Hons). It covers essential subjects like geotechnics, surveying, construction project management, structural analysis, and sustainable environments. Students learn about engineering geology, soil mechanics, construction materials, and transportation engineering, gaining practical skills and a solid grounding in the field. The year also focuses on sustainability and real-world applications, with projects involving planning construction projects, considering environmental impact, and incorporating safety measures. The second year deepens knowledge in key areas such as hydraulics, structural design, soil mechanics, and project management. It enhances technical skills through modules that focus on design, structural analysis, transportation engineering, and construction contracts. The Civil Engineering Design Project encourages students to apply their learning to real-world problems, with a focus on sustainable development goals. In the final year, students consolidate their learning by undertaking an interdisciplinary project, where they develop transferable skills in teamwork, communication, and project planning. The Research Dissertation allows students to explore a specific problem in depth, applying research methods and presenting their findings. Additionally, Engineering Analysis focuses on advanced topics like structural integrity, materials technology, and environmental sustainability in infrastructure projects.
